APIUS Forum 2013

On 25-26 April 2013, the APIUS Forum 2013 was held at Afrodyta Bussines&Spa Hotel in Radziejowice. It was the second edition of the conference organised by Apius, to which we had the honour to invite our Clients and Partners.

During the APIUS FORUM 2013 conference, together with our technology partners, we presented a number of innovative and technologically advanced solutions in the field of IP communication and information security. The two-day meeting offered an interesting programme, and the interesting location provided our participants with an excellent atmosphere throughout their stay. On 25-26 April 2013, the APIUS Forum 2013 was held at Afrodyta Bussines&Spa Hotel in Radziejowice. It was the second edition of the conference organised by Apius, to which we had the honour to invite our Clients and Partners.

The conference was opened by Łukasz Kułacz, President of the Management Board of Apius Technologies Sp. z o.o., who presented the Company's greatest successes in 2012 and its development plan for the years 2013-2014.

The first speaker was Gaweł Mikołaczyk (Cisco Systems) whose speech was devoted to the security in Data Processing Centers, including protection against cyber attacks, firewall systems, large horizontal and vertical segmentation scale of data processing centers and Cloud Interconnect.

During the second presentation, Piotr Linke (SourceFire) argued that there are solutions that efficiently protect IT systems against hacker attacks, viruses and the harmful effects resulting from actions taken by frustrated employees.  He illustrated the step-by-step approach to the security of IT environments consisting in defining the actions taken: 'before', 'during' and 'after', which could help our Clients to be better prepared and act much more efficiently in the fight against threats.

The next presentation was delivered by Seweryn Jodłowski, a representative of Palo Alto Networks. During his speech he explained how to safely share applications in own environment using Next-Generation Firewall solutions. "Today's applications are different. Most of them use dynamic ports, encryption and other techniques that allow them to bypass traditional safeguards in order to be permanently available to end users. Blocking these new applications as if they were a threat is not a solution because many of them are used for the benefit of companies. Controls using a variety of solutions such as a firewall, IPS/IDS or DLP systems are tiring and quite expensive", said Jodłowski.

After a short break, Jarosław Ulczok presented another innovation introduced by Trend Micro - Custom Defense. DeepDiscovery is the first solution designed to identify unknown threats and block the communication with command and control servers used for the purposes of targeted attacks.  "The strength of the solution is to analyse every suspicious file in a controlled sandbox environment", argued J. Ulczok. DeepSecurity not only detects and analyses dangerous incidents but also instantly adjusts the defence strategy and enables to control the way of reacting".

At the end of the conference, Grzegorz Mucha (RSA – The Security Division of EMC) pointed out that with the current level of attacks and their high complexity, not only to the possibility that the organisation is under attack but also that the attack has been successful should be taken seriously into consideration. For this reason, the creation of an effective team and system of reaction to incidents becomes just as important as building security mechanisms. The purpose of the presentation was to show how to effectively approach the creation of a modern Security Operations Center (SOC), both from the organisational and technological point of view.

We are grateful to our technology partners: Cisco Systems, TrendMicro, Palo Alto Networks, RSA, SourceFire for the co-organisation of the Apius Forum 2013 conference.

We would like to thank all the participants of the conference for their active participation and invite them to the next events organised by Apius Technologies.
